Privacy Policy

Hindu Pro is a Hindu devotional app for iPhone and Android. Nova Platforms Pty Ltd (ABN 26700458797, Sydney, Australia) makes the app and runs its servers. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Nova Platforms Pty Ltd. This policy tells you what data the app collects, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have.

Summary

  • You can use the app as a guest, with no name and no email address. You can add your email address at any time, to use your account on your other phones. There is no password: you sign in with a code that we email to you.
  • We keep your practice, your settings and your questions on our servers. When your account has an email address, they follow you to a new phone.
  • When you ask a question in Ask, it goes to an AI model that Cloudflare runs for us. The app asks your permission before your first question.
  • We do not show ads, we do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.
  • You can delete your account and all of its data in the app at any time.

Data we collect

Your account

  • As a guest, you give no name and no email address. We give your account a random ID and a placeholder address that identifies no one.
  • If you create an account, your name and email address.
  • Sign-in codes. We keep each code in a hashed form, and it stops working after 10 minutes.
  • For each device you use the app on, the IP address and device type (user agent) of the session. We use them to keep your account safe and to limit sign-in attempts. A session ends 60 days after you last use it, or when you sign out.

When a guest adds an email address, the guest account becomes that account and keeps all of its data. If the email address already has an account, the app signs in to that account: we delete the guest account and its data, and we move a guest subscription to that account.

Your practice and settings

  • The answers you give when you set up the app: the deity you pray to most, what is on your heart, your goals, your language, and the time you practise.
  • Your practice: the days you complete each step, your japa counts, your streak, the verses you save, your progress in study plans, and the festival reminders you set.
  • Your preferences, such as your mantra, the bell at 108, and whether the daily horoscope shows.

Your deity, your practice and your questions can show your religious beliefs. We use them only to run the app for you.

Your location

If you let the Calendar use your location, the app sends us your position and the name of your city. We use them to calculate sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal, festival dates, and the times in your daily reading. The location service of your phone finds the name of the city: Apple on iPhone, and the Android Geocoder (Google Play services) on Android. On Android, the app asks only for your approximate location. The app asks for your location only on the Calendar screen, and only while you use the app. If you say no, the app uses New Delhi.

Your horoscope

To find your rashi, you can pick it, enter your birth details, or choose the first sound of your name. The app calculates the rashi on your phone. We store only the result: your rashi, your nakshatra if the app knows it, and how you found it. Your birth date, time and place never leave your phone.

Your questions (Ask)

  • Your questions, the answers, and the history of each chat. We keep them so you can read them again. The way you started the chat, and a verse you attached, are kept with them.
  • The date and time you agreed to send your questions to the AI.
  • The reports you make about an answer, with the reason you chose.
  • A count of the questions you ask each day and of the AI use of your account each month, so we can apply the limits of the free plan and of premium.

Your subscription

If you subscribe, the store takes the payment: Apple on iPhone, and Google Play on Android. We never see your card details. We store whether you have premium, when it ends, and when a free trial started. RevenueCat keeps the record of your App Store and Google Play purchases for us. If you buy as a guest and then sign in to an account that already exists, we ask RevenueCat to move the purchase to that account.

How we use your data

We use your data only to:

  • run the app and keep your practice the same on each of your devices;
  • write the answers to your questions;
  • send your sign-in codes;
  • apply the limits of the free plan and of premium, and check your subscription;
  • keep the service safe, stop abuse, and fix errors;
  • reply when you contact us.

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not use your questions to train AI models.

Where the law needs a legal basis for this use (for example, in the European Union and the United Kingdom): we use your data to give you the service you ask for; we ask your consent before your questions go to the AI and before we use your location; and we keep the service safe because we have a legitimate interest to do so.

The AI that answers your questions

When you send a question, an AI model that Cloudflare runs for us (Workers AI) writes the answer. The model receives your question, the earlier messages in that chat, the verses we found for your question, your language, and your deity. It does not receive your name or your email address. Answers can be wrong. They do not replace a doctor, a counsellor, or other professional help.

Who else handles your data

We use these service providers. Each one handles your data only to give its service to us.

ProviderWhat it does for usWhat it handles
CloudflareRuns our servers and this website, runs the AI model that writes answers, and sends sign-in emailsThe data that passes through our servers, your questions and chat history, and your email address
PlanetScaleHosts our databaseThe data we store
RevenueCatKeeps the record of your subscriptionYour account ID and your App Store and Google Play purchases
AppleOn iPhone: sells and bills subscriptions, and finds the name of your cityYour payment details and purchases, under Apple's own privacy policy
GoogleOn Android: sells and bills subscriptions (Google Play), and finds the name of your city (Google Play services)Your payment details and purchases, under Google's own privacy policy

We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers. We disclose data only if the law requires it.

Cloudflare, PlanetScale and RevenueCat are companies in the United States. Your data can be stored and processed in the United States and in other countries where they operate.

Data that stays on your phone

Some data never leaves your phone:

  • your birth details, if you enter them;
  • the notifications, which the app schedules on your phone (we keep only your practice time and the festival reminders you set, as above);
  • the data your iPhone Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show;
  • the images you make to share, until you share them.

The app keeps your sign-in session in the secure storage of your phone.

How long we keep your data

  • We keep your account data until you delete your account.
  • Only the session on your phone can open a guest account. When that session ends (60 days after you last use the app), nobody can open the account again, so we delete it and all of its data soon after.
  • When you delete a chat, we delete its questions, answers and reports.
  • Sign-in codes stop working after 10 minutes. A session ends 60 days after you last use it.
  • To limit sign-in attempts, we count the codes sent to each email address and the tries to use them. We delete each count when it is no longer needed, normally within a day.
  • Server logs help us fix errors and stop abuse. We delete them after at most 7 days.

Delete your account

In the app, open Settings (tap your avatar on Today), then tap Delete account. This deletes your account and all of its data from our database at once, and deletes your purchase record at RevenueCat. You can also email us and ask us to delete your account. For the steps and the details, see Delete your account.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in the App Store or in Google Play first (see Support).

Your choices and rights

  • Change your name, deity, language and other settings in Settings at any time.
  • Turn off location for Hindu Pro in the Settings app of your phone. The Calendar then uses the last place it knew, or New Delhi.
  • If you do not agree to the AI notice, the app sends nothing and you cannot use Ask. The rest of the app still works.
  • Depending on where you live, you can have the right to get a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it. Email us, and we will reply within 30 days.
  • In Australia, if you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). In the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Hindu Pro is for people aged 13 and older. The stories for children are for parents and teachers to read with them. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think that a child gave us data, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Data moves between the app and our servers with encryption (HTTPS). We keep sign-in codes in a hashed form, and we limit who can get access to our systems. No system is fully secure, but we work to protect your data.

This website

This website (hindupro.app) sets no cookies and has no analytics or tracking. Cloudflare, which serves the website, processes your IP address to send you the pages and to protect the website.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will put the new version at this address and change the date at the top.
